FERNDALE, Wash. — Firefighters were dispatched to the 5800 block of Hawthorne Place in Ferndale about 11pm, Thursday, September 8th, due to reports of a structure fire with visible flames.
Firefighters arrived to find a line of bushes on fire between 2 residences.
The fire damaged exterior siding on both residences along with the exterior of a parked car. There were no reported injuries.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 Fire Chief Larry Hoffman told Whatcom News that a fire investigator determined a propane torch was used to burn weeds on a gravel strip alongside the bushes that afternoon. Although the resident had soaked the area with water afterwards, there was enough heat remaining to ignite the bushes.
